Work (once again), Uni, Piercing, College!

Well, it feels like an age since I last posted. Well, I think I should start with a common topic of my blog posts. Work. The thing that has haunted me for a while due to the lack of it. However, as of the 22nd July I have been working for the National Pandemic Flu Service! Yes, finally I found some work, or should I say that work found me. You see I was contacted by the agency who employed me in Orange over the Christmas Period. They told me of the job in Greenock, full-time with £7 an hour pay. How could I resist? The only problem was the travelling to Greenock. You see I live in Glasgow and I would be finishing work at midnight some shifts. This being a time where there are no trains running back to Glasgow. So essentially I would have been fucked. However, during our "training" day I was informed of a free bus service that was being put on by the agency employing us. This was a saviour. I was quite pissed off at the fact that the person who was telling about the job from the agency failed to mention any bus. But I knew about it now and it has been great. Well, not great, handy is more the word I would use. You see the buses are uncomfortable and we are on them for about an hour, ish. There was more trouble when I realised we wouldn't get into George Square until 1am. This meant that I had missed all the buses around at that time (well from Sunday to Thursday anyway). However, this was sorted by being offered a lift by someone from my work from town. This has been a god send and a life saver otherwise I would have to stay at my sisters every night I was working, which isn't that bad but I would rather be in my own bed. So anyway about the work side of things. The job is as simple as just reading from a script. It is quite easy if you get a good caller who can understand what you're saying. But at the beginning we mostly got about 10 calls a night and by the end of the night shift rotation I was getting about 2 calls in a 7 hour shift. Now I'm in the day shift and getting about 6 calls a day. However, tomorrow is my last day of work as I'm going back to college and I feel quite sad but relieved to not have to get up at 5am to start at 8am. Also, on the work side of things I also have a telephone interview on Wednesday 26th August for the Sky call centre in Uddingston. I'm hoping to god that I get this as it would mean I would have a regular income and not have to saver every little penny of money I have earned over the last month. So please pray I get the job! On another note, I missed a week of work due to going a university course. This leads nicely (although maybe obviously) onto my next topic.

I had a week at the University of the West of Scotland. I was doing a course in TV Presenting. This was really, really fun. At the beginning we weren't very good at it as we had to do a piece to camera improvised. This was quite daunting as it was the first day and we were just thrown into it. However, it did show me the purpose and importance of a learned script. My last piece was my favourite. I was doing a piece on location that was like Most Haunted. Although mine was called Ghost Hunters. I enjoyed this part the most because my locations were excellent. My opening shot was me standing outside of a large building with boarded up windows. It was an excellent background for my opening shot. After we had finished filming this first shot we found a way inside. It was incredibly creepy and would have been perfect to film the rest of it in there. However, the lecturer said that he didn't want to do it in there as it may not have been very safe and there was pigeon shit all over the floor. It wasn't nice and I was sad that we couldn't film there but I understood where he was coming from. So we filmed the rest of my piece and I really enjoyed it. I could be much more creative with how the shots would look as I had a script and had learned it completely. When I watched it back I was really excited to see the final cut when they had edited it all. I have handed in the essays we had to do for it but I don't think I will pass but I'm not too bothered as I really just wanted the show reel to give to agents I try get work with. I'm happy with the end results and really glad I took part now. I also met some great people there and got to know some people from college better than I did before. However, the Saturday before I started university I got something done that I had wanted to do for a bit but wasn't too sure whether to get it.

I got my nipple pierced. It was nothing major as I had wanted it done and decided that I would get it done now as I really wanted it done. So on the Saturday I met my sister in town and we went to the Glasgow Piercing Studio to get it done. I wasn't nervous or scared despite being asked by my sister. So when the piercer came out she was talking to my sister, as they know each other. So we went through to the room to talk about what would be happening. There is a sign up saying that no one is allowed to come into the room with you unless you are under 16. However, Rachel (the piercer) allowed Claire (my sister) into the room because she knows her. She then asked if it would be ok realising that it was up to me but it didn't bother me. So we talked about what would happen and I signed some forms. We then went through to get it done. I lifted my top and mark the area for the needle to go through. At this point I was still pretty much unfazed by it all. She explained that I should take a deep breath when she tells me to and then release it when she said. So she got prepared and told me to take a deep breath. I did so. She then said to release it. I did so. It was at this point that she plunged a needle through my nipple. She then fiddled about with it and put the bar in. Within a minute it was done. Usually they would offer to freeze it and clamp it. However, I didn't get offered. To be honest though I would prefer not to have wasted time doing that cause it didn't hurt that much and any pain was bearable. So when it was all done Claire and Rachel sat and chatted for a bit and then I paid for the piercing. I was happy with everything and was glad that I had gotten it done. However, now I have been infected by the piercing bug. I now want my eyebrow pierced lol. I really want it done but I am waiting to see what job I get next as they may not be too happy about me having an eyebrow piercing and I would prefer the job to a piercing. So we'll see what comes of that.

As I said earlier, tomorrow is my last day in the National Pandemic Flu Service. This is because I am returning to college from the 31st August. I can't wait. But first I have my induction on the 26th, which I am really looking forward to. I can't wait to see everyone again. I am starting my HND year, which is quite scary, but I am very excited about it. I was a bit annoyed at the end of HNC as I was told that I was still giving "student performances". Now what they meant by this I don't know, as it was never explained to me and the fact is, I am a student. But this has spurred me on and I really want to try prove them wrong so I’ll work my arse off this year. Not that I haven't other years but this year I'm going to make a conscious effort to do so. I hope that they notice an improvement and they will be saying I am giving a "professional performance" soon. But only time will tell.

So that is all for now. I will post again next month. Hope everyone is ok (if many (or any) people read this lol).

Cheery bye!!
